Now we have so many books everywhere in our house with no place to put them and I am really regretting for not getting at least one of these. Costco has a different shelf for 199 right now but it is smaller in every dimension and also doesn't look as good. I do hope they'll restock this item one day... With a recent home addition they were able to add more shelves. In trying to find them, I happened upon this blog. I sent a letter to Costco asking for their buyers to consider restocking the shelves in their warehouses since there were so many of us that apparently would snap them up if they were made available. The response from Sue at Costco was "It is our goal to provide our members with the highest quality name-brand products while keeping our stock focused on the best selling items. Since we price our items as low as possible, all items must demonstrate high sales in order for us to continue to stock them. Our buyers occasionally review the possibility of re-introducing products. I will forward your e-mail to them so they are aware of your interest, as we value our member's input." My husband called the Whalen Company today and was told that the company stopped making them because Costco stopped ordering them. (So reading between the lines..... means Whalen and Costco wanted more $$profit$$ and neither one of them was willing to negotiate a deal.) This leaves you and me and tons of others scrounging around trying to find more. So my suggestion is to bombard Costco with emails requesting they bring them back and hope that if they do, we can make it to the warehouse in time to pick them up before they're sold out again.
