Hathaway Platinum Men’s Shirt – Right after we cruised through the DVD section we spotted this table of really nice looking men’s shirts; very nice indeed since they came all packaged in a little box and not just stacked on the table. And I’ll tell you, it wasn’t just the box that got our attention, but these were really nice looking, well-made shirts. They’re made from 100% cotton made in Italy and have a very soft, smooth texture and a nice weight – neither too thick and crunchy or too light and flimsy. They had some nice colors and patterns too, including the one that we picked up for Dave; a black shirt with stripes in gray and white. All of the colors had a dressier, more contemporary feel than the usual blue or white shirt, which was nice to see. The real testament to this shirt is that Dave wore it all day at work and when he came home it still looked great with hardly a wrinkle in sight. I only wish that the clothing at Costco for women was as nice and well-made as the offerings for men. It hardly seems fair. But I digress. Just from a quick look around the web, you’re going to pay way more for a Hathaway dress shirt every place else; from $15 to $40 more to be honest. So, once again, Costco offers great value for great quality. I’ll also put in here, that Dave has some of the Kirkland Signature dress shirts too. They are really an exceptional value at around $25 for a quality that is comparable to something you’d get for $80 probably someplace else. $29.99
Hot Sox Cashmere Blend Socks, 3 pack – Okay, these are not like pulling a cashmere sweater on over your foot for sure. But really, I don’t think that softness would stand up well to being a sock anyway, do you? But these are a nice sock, nonetheless. I was getting low on nice, and comfortable, dark socks so I took a look at these. They feel nice and don’t have a super heavy seam across your toes that can really get painful after a couple of hours. Plus, they’re a nice length: not too short like an ankle sock and not too long like a knee sock. And you don’t just get 3 boring pairs of black socks in the bundle, but you get a nice zippy stripped pair too. I like to have a little fun with my socks, so I can appreciate a colorful array of stripes. Even though they call these a ‘luxury cashmere blend’ they are mostly other fibers: 42% rayon, 30& nylon, 13% polyester, 8% wool, 4% cashmere, 2% spandex, and 1% rubber. So, if you’re looking for an all natural fiber sock, these are not the socks you are looking for. I’ll be honest, I don’t know how much something similar would cost at the average department store, but I know that the last time I bought socks they were way higher than I thought they should be, at about $7.00 per pair, and they were just cotton. 3 pairs of socks for $12.99
Solid Wood 5″ x 7″ Picture Frame, 3 pack – I bought a nice set of picture frames for some of my remaining photos that I got printed last week. The frames are all 5″x7″, but with the really nice double matting that comes with the frames, the opening is 4″x6″; so you could use it for either size depending on your need for a mat around it or not. They come with very nice hinged hanger mounts for a vertical or horizontal arrangement and also have a 2-way easel leg. I got mine in a black finish, however, they also have the a set in gold or a wood tone. And as a nice little bonus you get a coupon inside the box for 50 free digital prints from Costco; so you can go print more photos to buy more frames. They have a really nice selection of frames at Costco, especially this time of year, that come in a range of finishes to pretty much go with any design style. 3 frames for ($14.99 – $3.00 coupon =) $11.99.
Carr’s Table Water Cracker Selection – These are perhaps my favorite crackers that Costco sells. They are perfect for pairing with just about any topping you could dream up. Their size and the fact that they are a nice sturdy cracker makes them good even if you wanted to put something a little more elaborate on top than just a simple slice of cheese. Though, I must admit, my favorite topping is a nice slice of good cheese. There are 4 different varieties in the box that you get at Costco: Table Water, Cracked Pepper, Toasted Sesame Seed, and Roasted Garlic and Herb. The only flavor that could be a bit intrusive or over powering for your topping is the Roasted Garlic; there’s enough garlic and herb flavor that it really is more than just a quiet participant in your cracker experience. You need something pretty hearty to stand up to it, maybe a really sharp cheddar cheese or something that would pair well with a garlicky flavor. These are great for when you’re having a party or large get together though because you get a nice selection and you just have to buy one box to get 4 different flavors. 5 packages of crackers for $8.89.
Granny Smith Apples – My husband likes a nice tart, crisp Granny Smith apple. But sometimes at the grocery store it is hard because you can’t find really nice ones that are man sized, they’re often so tiny they’re like the junior version – an applette, really. But the ones from Costco have a nice size to them and a great flavor. I usually skip the Granny Smiths but even I liked the taste of these. And I know it is silly, but I like that they come in the little plastic package that keeps each apple snuggly in its own separate bubble; I think it helps cut way down on the bruising and the spoiling. We bought the conventionally grown apples, but you can also get the organic ones at Costco for $7.49 for 12. These make a great snack during the day and match well with a little piece of cheese or even a little Nutella (yes, I like an unorthodoxed lunch now and again). If we were both good kids and ate one each day, as the saying goes, we would be healthy and also able to polish off the dozen apples in just a week. In truth we ate six of them this week, but they look perfect still, so we’ll be able to finish off the others this week. 12 apples (around 4.5 lbs) for $6.99.
