My Husband Can Save $10,000 at Costco.com Today

December 10th, 2008 · 7 Comments

You might not believe the claims in that title but seriously, my husband or anyone really, can save $10,000 right now at Costco.com.  And that’s just from buying one tiny little item; so small you could hold it in the palm of your hand, or wear it on your finger. That’s right, it is a dazzling, sparkly, diamond ring.  This might just be the biggest discount I’ve ever seen on any one item at Costco.com.

And even better, it is just in time for the holidays, guys.  Nothing says ‘look how much this thrifty shopper loves you’ like a ring with a $10,000 discount!  I mean, that’s so much savings, it is hard to pass up.  I know you’re probably all dying to know all of the details about how you can save that much money on a ring.  Well, the tricky part is that you have to buy a $69,999.99 ring to get the savings.  But at least you’re not paying $80,000!  And to sweeten the deal, shipping and handling is included in that price.  Of course, it is standard UPS 7 – 10 business day shipping but still, it’s a deal.  While I’m only joking about my husband buying me something like this (it really does not go with my usual outfits of sweatpants or jeans), and I doubt the average blog reader is going to go grab it up either, I’ll provide the full details just so you can see the deals Costco offers to those wealthy, lucky few, capitalists who have made themselves rich.

A steal at $69,999.99

A steal at $69,999.99

In all seriousness, if you are looking for a big diamond ring to buy for that special someone, this is a very nice ring at a very nice price (really).  Here are the stats on the ring:

  • Metal: 950 Platinum
  • Diamond Shape: Radiant
  • Diamond Weight: 3.23 ct
  • Diamond Clarity: Very Very Slightly Included (VVS2)
  • Diamond Color: Colorless ( E )
  • Ring Size: 7 – Sizable to any size (Costco does not provide this service)
  • Only One Available

So, it’s a huge, one of a kind ring!  That all sounds like an incredible deal.  But just to be sure, I went to Blue Nile to do a little comparison shopping.  I could only find one diamond that came close to having a similar size and quality.  It is actually a smidge smaller and not a ring, just a loose diamond but it’s as close as it got.  So, at Blue Nile this is what you can get with comparable size, cut and clarity:

  • Diamond Shape: Radiant
  • Diamond Weight: 3.21 ct
  • Diamond Clarity: Very Very Slightly Included (VVS1)
  • Diamond Color: Colorless ( E )
  • Price: $86,854

You’ll notice that the price is $16,854.01 higher at Blue Nile.  Ouch, that’s quite a hit.  With all of that extra money that you are saving, you could buy a nice pair of diamond ear rings or maybe a necklace at Costco.com too.  Probably both, I mean, you are saving over $16,000.

Does it amaze anyone else that you can buy this kind of thing online at Costco.com?  Or more to the point, that someone has already bought this ring at Costco.com?  Because while I’ve been writing this post, someone appears to have bought this ring, right out from under me!  They’ve removed the page, which usually only happens if they sell something like this.  But not to worry, they’ve added a new $94,999.99 ring to the site!  Phew….that was close!

Costco.com does have some great references available for those of you actually trying to find a decent engagement ring, too.  We don’t all have the money to buy a $70k ring, but you can still get a nice ring at a very decent price through Costco.com or your local warehouse.  They have the Diamond Education 4-Cs of Diamonds as a PDF, as well as the F.A.Q. of Jewelry with some general information, information about Conflict Diamonds, as well as information about buying jewelry at Costco.com.

Dang-it, I already bought all of my diamond jewelry gifts for the year.

That seems pretty crazy to deliver something like that via standard UPS ground.. I would think ground via armored car would be more appropriate!

VVS1 though. That should bump up the price considerably.

I’m with Rickie M; that was my thought too. How peculiar to send such a small thing via UPS ground! For the price, that can’t expedite it a tad? Really?

And in response to Peter, I always thought that the price difference between VVs1 and VVs2 was a fairly wide spread too. However, that turns out to not exactly be the case and it seems that the size still plays a very big factor in the price. Here’s some comparison from BlueNile.com:
    3.01 carat, E color, VVS2 for $79,300
    3.02 carat, E color, VVS1 for $79,775
    3.11 carat, E color, VVS2 for $82,044
    3.21 carat, E color, VVS1 for $86,854

I actually don’t understand the pricing of the diamonds at all, obviously. There must be some other things that they are taking into account. Or perhaps the difference between VVS1 and VVS2 is not as significant as we’ve all been led to believe.

I’m not in the market for a big ring, but if I were I might actually consider going to Costco to get my diamonds. Just think, if you’re an Executive member, you’d get 2% back on that purchase. And if you used your Costco American Express, you’d get another 1% back too.

Can you buy a size 17 1/2 mens gold band from the counter at Silverdale Costco without a special order. Thank you. Louanna Nelson

I’d love to be able to answer this question but I’m just not sure. You should try asking someone in the store or you might try emailing the Customer Support people. You can find them here: https://costco.egain.net/system/selfservice.controller?CONFIGURATION=1001&PARTITION_ID=1&CMD=STARTPAGE&USERTYPE=1&LANGUAGE=en&COUNTRY=us

I worked in jewlery for 3 years at Costco and loved every piece that I put out. Mens rings come in a standard size of 12 and Ladies rings are a 7. Costco does not size any jewlery instore for liabilty purposes. But I can assure you all Costco is one of the highest quailty places for many many good deals. I am obviously a former employee, but my leaving had nothing to do with them as a company! They are fantastic! ;)
