Yesterday was the big grand opening of Costco’s new Business Center location in Las Vegas. There are only seven Costco Business Center locations in the U.S.; in June another one will be opening in California. This concept was something that Costco developed over 10 years ago with its first location near Seattle and subsequent locations in San Francisco and Southern California. While they still have some items that will appeal to the individual shopper, they are mainly competing against places like Office Max and Staples. I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen restaurant supply items at Office Max though!
The Las Vegas location used to be a Costco too but was closed in November to be redesigned to fit the Business Center concept. The Business Center offers great savings, much like a regular Costco, however, this store is geared more towards business owners. Gone are the food court (no more $1.50 hot dog lunches), clothing, and jewelry areas. Instead, these have been replaced by a large print and copy center, as well as larger stocks of bottled water and snacks. The new Business Center will also carry items such as restaurant supplies and office equipment. The updated store still has their self-serve gas station though, for those of you that are used to stopping here to fill up. Along with all of the other changes, the new Costco Business Center has new hours as well. They will be closed on Sundays and open 8 am – 6 pm Monday through Friday and open 9:30 am to 6 pm on Saturdays.
