We’ve recently made a little start on our plans to remodel our master bathroom by buying faucets from Costco.com. We had gotten some estimates from local plumbling supply stores in Austin and a few places online but just didn’t want to spend so much to get decent fixtures. And then one day I was browsing Costco.com’s home improvement items and found that they were carrying Hansgrohe faucets. This got me kind of excited because this is one of the brands that we liked but thought was a little pricey from the local places but of course, they were way less at Costco.com

Hansgrohe Lavatory Faucet
We had gotten a quote from a local place that put the cost of each lavatory faucet in brushed nickel at around $450 and that was without even getting the supply lines, pop up assembly, or any other things. At Costco.com we could get them for $259.99 each with the supply lines, the supply compression fittings, the pop up assembly and free shipping. I looked online and this is an incredibly good and very competitive price, with most places being more expensive for the same faucet and a couple (literally, 2 places) that were cheaper. One of the cheaper places was selling through eBay and didn’t even look like it was selling the same faucet, so that makes me think something fishy is going on there. And the other place, didn’t have free shipping or include the supply lines or supply compression fittings, for it’s price of just $20 less. So, I bought two of the Hansgrohe Metro E lavatory faucets in brushed nickel from Costco.com and got them within a week of ordering.

Hansgrohe Roman Tub Set
Luckily, Costco.com also had the matching 4-hole roman tub faucet set too; if you’re wondering that 4 hole is for a hand shower. What makes the set at Costco so nice is that they include the rough valve that you need to install the tub set and make it actually work. At Costco.com this set, including the valve is $589.99 with free shipping and that is just over $300 less than what the local places were quoting us, not including the valve. When I looked at other places online, I found that no one was actually cheaper than Costco.com, except it was harder to pick out at first because the valve pricing makes a big difference to the price. The valve by itself is somewhere in the range of $170 – $200 dollars, so when the tub set is just marginally less someplace else but doesn’t include the valve, it isn’t going to be such a good deal. Most of the other places online ended up with a price over $700 when the brushed nickel finish and the valve were accounted for, and some of these places didn’t have free shipping either. And with heavy stuff like this, that free shipping is a good thing. So, needless to say, I ended up ordering the Hansgrohe Metro E 4-hole roman tub set in brushed nickel from Costco.com too.
Unfortunately, Costco.com didn’t have the matching shower set with jets that we want (they do have a matching shower set, just not with all the things that we need). All in all, I figure that I saved quite a bit of money by not buying from my local plumbling supply folks for my faucets and getting them instead from Costco.com. Basically, it’s like I got two free lavatory faucets. And let’s face it, if I decide that I don’t want them or have a problem with them, you know Costco will take them back, whereas the local people will hit with me with a huge restocking fee (as will a lot of places online). We’re also considering getting our shower doors, whirlpool tub, and radiant floor heating mat and controller from Costco.com too. Of course, I’ll have to do a little comparison before buying those things. Now I just wish that Costco.com sold vanity countertops and sinks too so that I could hurry up and get my lovely new faucets installed.

Very impressed with the quality of Hansgrohe. I was introduced to them on a weekend escape to the lovely Isle of Skye in Scotland. Our little hideaway hotel had them installed in the bathroom and I remember being impressed how solid and well made they were. Years later, I found their showers on sale in Home Depot Expo (not sure if they’re still around) and immediately bought one.
I don’t know why hotels over here don’t install them. They seem to last for ever and work beautifully.
