I've heard good things about the VitaMix, never seen it demonstrated at Costco, though. They usually have the BlendTek guy and he seems very infomercial-esque.

My sister got me to really look at it, after she saw it on QVC. I think the sales person can make or break the deal. Some are totally like the Sham Wow guy. It has a 7 year warranty, most people that comment on it say they have had theirs for like 20 years or more. I think it would be good for newlyweds, say instead of a Margarita Maker that runs in the same price range. Or young people with small kids that want to "hide" vegetable in their drinks. I was amazed at what you can hide in a drink.
I am of the age that we've gotten 2 kids through college (basically free because I got a job at the college- making nothing per hour, but no tuition- books yes, science books yes lots of $$), so the price seemed more like the price of a college pharmacy book, and I've bought several of them, so I thought I deserved to spend some money on myself. At least one will make lots of $ with a Doctorate in Pharmacy and the other an artist... she serves coffee at Border's... she can make pretty whipped cream with that art degree!

I have a big garden each summer and just pitch stuff over the fence to the compost pile, because there is no way I can eat everything that grows. Sooo... I plan to make a V-8 type drink every day this coming summer. I have made fruit and vegetable smoothies about every other day for two weeks now. I am eating less "bad" food for snacks and they are so yummy.

My daughter gave me the Costco membership for a Xmas gift. She just graduated from college in St. Louis and every time I was there, I'd long to get in the Costco. With the membership I got a sheet of "special coupons" not the January coupon book, and it was worth more than the $50 membership. It has about $40 of totally free stuff. 2#coffee, a chicken, 48 AA batteries, 100 photos. I have to drive 100 miles to the Louisville Ky store or 150 miles to St. Louis, but I'm so happy to have it. It is a gift much better than $50 to a restaurant that only lasts one night.
I'm glad to be a Costco girl along with you all.

Keep passing on all your good information and I love being able to see the coupon books you post, because i don't get them yet, since I just joined January 15.

I've never given the Vita Mix more than a passing glance because the guy selling it at our location is always like a live infomercial. Seriously, I think he's channeling the guy that sells the ShamWow on tv. However, maybe I should check it out covertly when he's not looking. :-)

Do any of you ladies use a Vita Mix? I bought one last week and so far love it. Sounds like your Mom would like one making her smoothies and HSW you might find you can make some great treats for you daughter with fresh fruits.

The best thing about the simple salted kettle chip version is that it is good for people that are allergic to soy because they're cooked in safflower/sunflower oil.

Just wanted to say thanks for the site! My daughter is allergic to eggs, milk, soy, wheat, corn, peanuts, tree nuts, and sesame seeds so we've been scouring costco for options that work for her. Other good finds are freeze dried fruit and fruit leather. The fruits and veggies are a hit too, along with the basmati rice. Now costco is carrying rice milk which is awesome as well. We were worried when we found out about the allergies a few weeks ago that our costco membership wouldn't be as useful but we've been pleasantly surprised. :)
