Costco Bakery Cake Order Forms (US and UK)

July 15th, 2010 · 29 Comments

One of the friendly Costco Bakery folks commented (on Costco Bakery Makes an Excellent Cake) a while back that the sheet cake and cupcake order form for the US had been updated, so the one I had posted was no longer valid.  Apparently, this was to account for changes to filling and icing choices that Costco has put into effect.  So, when we were in New York I picked up the new order form so I could share it with everyone here.  I still don’t understand why they don’t have a copy of this on the Costco.com website, but I’ll fill in the gap.  I’m also going to take this opportunity to add the UK cake order form to the site, as well.

The order form is pretty self-explanatory and pretty clearly lists all choices.  The order form for the US Costco locations lists prices: $16.99 for white or chocolate cake and 20 pack of cupcakes; $18.99 for a Carrot Cake.  It is also nice enough to let you know that there are 48 servings per cake.  The UK order form does not list prices, though the cakes are always £11.99 when I have looked at them previously.  Also, in the UK you can still mix and match your cake, filling and icing choices.  However, no carrot cake option here in the UK.  Also, in the US you just need to give them 24 hours of advanced notice but here in the UK they require at least 48 hours advanced notice.

Since you can fax the order forms to the Costco Bakery location of your choosing, you should now be able to handle ordering without a special trip to Costco.  And, if you missed it, I did post images of the US Costco cake designs.  I’ll try to get something similar for the UK designs as well.  Just click on the image below to get the full-sized order form.

I ordered cupcakes for my daughter’s college graduation party, and used the colors as part of the decoration. price was great. they were a big hit. We cut them in half to serve.

LOVE their cakes but SO bummed that we can choose the fillings anymore. :( I hope they bring that option back!

Got a carrot cake last month and it was delicious. Decadent, but not overly sweet.
Feeding 48 might be a stretch, but 40 pieces no problem.

    Kim-

Thank you for posting the form.

I love the carrot cake at Costco exactly because the frosting isn’t sickeningly sweet like it is from most bakeries. Sadly, I can’t really ever get it though because Dave is not a fan of the carrot cake.

The cupcakes are great too. I talked some guys into buying them when I was in NY. They were pondering them when I walked up and told then how outstanding they were and how great they would be for their party. Yup, I’m a cupcake pusher.

Costco seems to have reduced their number of options for cakes. For my wife’s birthday last year in May we got a marble cake and I don’t see that as an option any more.

And as other commented, I miss the choice of options for fillings.

I suppose this has to do with Costco’s business model: they stock relatively few items but they do them very well and at a low cost.

In this case, there is a bit of a trade off.

However, unless you need a once in a lifetime style cake, they are a great value and darn tasty.

What? No more strawberry mousse or apricot filling options, either? So sad! We’re not fans of the buttercream frosting around here (too sweet), so we always order chocolate cake with strawberry mousse filling and cream cheese frosting for special occasions. *sigh* I really hope Costco brings the options back!

I really miss the whipped cream frostinig option that they used to have (years ago it seems). The buttercream isn’t bad, but the whipped cream frosting was so much better!

I talked to someone in the costco bakery today and they informed me that they will be changing things up even more with the cakes! I was told that at the end of August they will be discontinuing cupcakes and carrot cakes. She tried to make it seem better by saying they will be doing a smaller version carrot cake, but serisouly? Why is costco limiting our options so much?

  10. 10 Kimberly // 2010.08.21 at 1:13 am

@Danyelle – OHMYGOD! Seriously they would get rid of the cupcakes? That is horrible! That just really isn’t cool. And makes me very, very sad. :-( Here in the UK they have the smaller carrot cakes. They are like the still rather large rounds with multiple layers, like that really super-chocolaty cake that they have.

I’m still in shock about the cupcakes.

Vanilla and white or chocolate and chocolate. Not for me. I’ll go back to regular bakeries now. How hard is it slap white frosting on a chocolate cake instead of chocolate icing, if that’s what a customer wants? Poor customer service yields poor return rate.

I love costco cupcakes and the carrot sheet cake! I hope Costco changes their mind. Costco bakery products are the best! Cake decorators can anyone check if there will be changes?

We will miss the cupcakes and carrot cake

  13. 13 yolanda // 2010.08.29 at 7:50 pm

I stopped by my store. The order form has the follinwg. white cake filled with 2 lbs. vanilla cheesecake ousees and iced w/white buttercream or chocolate cake filled with 2 lbs chocolate mousse and iced w/chocolate buttercream. I asked can I substitute white cake with 2 lbs chocoalte mousse. The costco decorator said yes. The shite cakes are prices at $16.99

The carrot cake is the same size as the red velvet cake and sells for $12.99. I will miss my carrot sheetcake with the apricot filling and cream cheese.

The new order form does not have request for the muffin size cupcakes. The decorator mentioned maybe in the future they may have standard size cupcakes but she is not sure.

Anyone here miss the carrot cakes? I do. Well, I just love costco cakes-especially the costco cakes. Well, I guess for my birthday i will have a smaller size carrot cake.

Cake decorators are we limited to the color of icing. Can I request a pale pastel pink for the carriage cake design instead of the bright pink color?

I wish I saw this post sooner! It’s confirmed that Costco stopped making cupcakes in September.

I signed up with Costco earlier this week because I heard great things about them. I was told that this is the place to go for party platters, cupcakes, and supplies. I went to order the cupcakes but was told they didn’t have them. The cake options were so meager.

  15. 15 Trish // 2010.10.27 at 12:33 pm

I get the Costco sheet cakes for office parties. I just found out that the carrot sheet cake (an office favorite) is no longer available. I didn’t think the smaller carrot cake tasted as good, and was not as good a value. Where can one complain or comment?

And, I didn’t know you could fax an order in. How do you get the fax number?

  16. 16 Kimberly // 2010.10.28 at 4:27 am

@Trish, You can complain directly to the store through their comment box. This is located right by the exit or Customer Service desk usually. And believe it or not, they do actually look at all of the comments. At our Austin store they also kept a box with all of the comments made, so that members could look through it and see if there was a response from management. Also, you can try complaining online through the Customer Service email via Costco.com. You can find that here: Email Costco.

As for finding the fax number for your Costco Bakery, you would need to call your Costco to get that since they don’t list the bakery numbers online. Just use their Warehouse Finder page to locate your store and it will list the phone number for the store.

Hi! I was at the Clovis, CA Costco store yesterday and was surprised to see a package of 20 cupcakes in the bakery refrigerated section along with the sheet cakes, carrot cakes, red velvet cakes, and chocolate tuxedo mousse cakes. They all had chocolate buttercream frosting accompanied by Thanksgiving colored frosting. If my freezer wasn’t full, I would have bought them!

I go to the Aliso Viejo Costco store and they say they don’t make carrot cakes. I wanted a 1/2 sheet carrot cake for my husband’s 75th birthday party. Do any of the other south Orange County stores made carrot cake?

  19. 19 Margie in Florence, AZ // 2010.12.09 at 2:10 pm

Our nearest Costco (S. Gilbert, AZ) does not accept FAX orders so I ended up ordering my cake from Safeway (over the phone)…they have Whipped Cream frosting and Strawberry filling (and many other flavors)…a little more expensive but cheaper than the gas to drive to the Costco store twice.

  20. 20 Danny // 2011.03.03 at 12:01 pm

To everyone on this site the US cake oder form is now really INCORRECT!! Prices have changed so have the designs and options. They no longer make carrot cake in a 1/2 sheet only in a 10 in round. And there r no more options, white cake is filled with vanilla and iced in white buttercream and choc. cake is filled with choc. and iced in choc. buttercream. They also do not do cupcakes anymore. Please dont use this cake oder form.

  21. 21 Kimberly // 2011.03.03 at 12:23 pm

Does anyone have an up to date version of the order form that they could send me as either a PDF or a JPG?

  22. 22 Laurin // 2011.04.14 at 2:12 pm

I always get my family birthday cakes from Costco, but was shocked and saddened in January when I went in to order cakes for a Cub Scout banquet and learned of the changes. I ordered one white/white and one choc/choc. Everyone seemed to like the cakes, but my husband, kids and I all noticed that there was also a change in the flavor of the cakes and the consistency of the frosting and filling. Consequently, I will be getting my son’s birthday cake from Jewel this year. Why would Costco mess with a good thing?

  23. 23 kayla // 2011.04.15 at 1:57 am

I am a caKe decorator for costco.
The carrot cakes were removes from being sold in sheets to the rounds because so many people requested smaller size carrot cakes, and the sheet size was not a huge seller. The mousse options changed because it was too complicated during grad season and too many people complained about the case not having exactly the filling/frosting/design/colors they wanted. Since the bakery only has a certain number of hours they are alloted for scheduling, it made it so that more cakes could be produced because the orders were streamlined. The frosting was changed because of obamas tirade against transfat, so now the frosting had to be changed. The reason we cannot do more than the posted esigns is because we are not allowed, not because we are not skilled enough, but can actually get in trouble with management. Honestly its annoying to listen to people complain about our cakes! Its 17.99 for a half sheet! It barely makes us a profit after the ingredients and labor cost. people need to remember that we are a bakery inside of a warehouse, not a full service bakery. It isn’t cake boss, and those cakes cost thousands!

Also many locations do not accept fax in orders or the old order forms, many to most require you to come in.
Also, please know that gpbeing angry or rude towards the decorators for decisions we have no control over, just ruins our day, we do not get to have any input into the choices, but merely follow our managers rules.

  24. 24 Kimberly // 2011.04.16 at 3:39 am

I’d much rather have the better tasting cakes than a whole bunch of variation, personally. But I really like the chocolate cake too, it’s my favorite and since you still make that, I’m happy. However, doing anything to change the taste of the cakes makes me sad. Certainly if you were using lard over a partially hydrogenated vegetable oil that is a much better situation (as I understand it) than all of the fake oils and fats that are used in so many food items now.

Thank you so much for posting these!!! I called local, Headquarters, etc and still could not get a form out of them.

  26. 26 Julie // 2011.07.22 at 9:09 pm

Would someone please give me the dimensions of the cakes? We will need to transport & cool several cakes. Thank you.

  27. 27 Janice // 2011.10.05 at 5:22 pm

I love cake! Especially from costco! But how do i order it without having to go to the store

  28. 28 No // 2011.11.03 at 7:43 pm

I decorated and baked for Costco for over four years, up until a few months ago. They got way too cheap. When I started, we made the icing from scratch, with powdered sugar, water, shortening, salt etc…now the icing is pre-made and shipped in blocks, and re-constituted with water in a mixing bowl. The new icing took almost no time to make, whereas the buttercream would take 30 plus minutes, so there you go. They kept limiting options and the workers had to deal with the angry members who sometimes buy memberships just to get certain things. They started also shipping in pre-frozen round cakes and charging fifteen plus dollars for them when literally all we had to do was put them in a container. It wasn’t a real bakery anymore…Costco made all their cakes, muffins from scratch and now it’s turning into Wal Mart…and yes I’ve worked there as well

In 2004, I was going to be attending a Super Bowl party in the suburbs of Chicago. I wanted to order a cake to have it decorated for the event, but I was in California at the time. I called the store closest to my mother’s house and spoke with one of their bakery staff. They told me to go to my local warehouse, pick up a cake form and to fax it to them. I did this with about a one week notice. When I arrived to pick up the cake, I was blown away! They had decorated opposite corners of the cake with pom-poms in each of the teams colors and really went all out with their job. Everyone at the party commented on the beautiful job that was done and that they didn’t want to cut it because it looked so pretty. It’s a shame that Costco management has done away with something such as this.

And like Kayla said, being rude and nasty toward the bakery employees does nothing but make their day worse. They certainly don’t make the decisions on what to do or not to do. They’re just a line employee doing their job as they’re told to.
