What’s New at Costco.com right now?

January 12th, 2011 · 2 Comments

Every once in a while I browse through the “What’s New” category on Costco.com, just to torment myself with all the cool things that I’m missing out on.  Of course, if Costco.co.uk would get on the ball they could have an online store that I could shop from, but now I’m just talking crazy apparently.  In any case, there are lots of great, new products highlighted all the time, so you should really check out this part of the site to see what’s on offer.

Today when I looked there were 39 products highlighted in this section.  And they really cover a wide variety of types of products: everything from an Ebel watch to a digital video baby monitor to an insulated bait bucket for ice fishing.  So, there’s something for everyone probably.  And you can even start shopping for Valentine’s Day with the tower of treats that they are now offering too, as well as some other nice gifts.  But of course, there are a couple of things that really caught my eye, either because they are really cool and useful, because of their quirkiness, or just because something about them struck me as funny.

AutoChron 3-pack Wireless Wall Switch Timer – We’ve had similar items to these in our houses for years.  They are so useful for things like outside lights that you want to come on/go off at a specific time every day or for an interior light that you’d like to go on before you get up in the morning or come home from work at night.  We always had them installed on our outdoor lights so that they would come on and didn’t rely on us remembering to turn them on all the time.  This one looks easy to program and has a manual override so that you can still turn your light on when you want as well.  This would be good for turning on any light or electronic product that isn’t going to work correctly, or at all, with a plug in timer or other programmable timers.  Some of them won’t work with fluorescent lights and things like that, so this is a good alternative.  This works by physically flipping the switch on and off.  And that means that you won’t have to do any wiring or complicated stuff like that.  They claim you can have it installed in about a minute.  The only bad thing is that it sticks out from the wall quite a bit, which can look clunky.  However, if you’re looking for an easy way to get a programmable timer on your lights, this is a good idea.  You can get a 3 pack for $49.99, including shipping and handling.

World of Wool EcoGreen Pillows

World of Wool EcoGreen Pillows

World of Wool EcoGreen Pillows – This product I looked at initially because I thought the pillow would actually be some type of wool product since it comes from a company called ‘World of Wool’.  But that isn’t actually the case, strangely.  The pillows are actually made from a spun yarn, produced from recycled water bottles.  Yup, all of those plastic water bottles have found a second life as pillows.   The case isn’t wool either, it’s made from cotton.  They claim that the pillow “comfortably buffers pressure points and supports proper spinal alignment, eliminating neck and back pain.”  I don’t know how it would do that because it looks just like a regular pillow, but just with a different filling.  If you have allergies or don’t like pillows with down or feathers, or the poly fill, these might be an interesting alternative.  You can buy them in king, queen, or standard sizes with prices of $38.99, $33.99, and $27.99 respectively.  Even though I don’t understand the wool tie in with these pillows from recycled plastic bottles, however, they have a really cute logo (at left) with a little sheep.

So, obviously those are just a couple of the new things available through Costco.com right now.  But there are 37 other items that you might want to take a look at, as well.  One of the other interesting items is a weird, but effective I guess, cat liter box.  It looks like a strange interpretation of a hamster wheel that you can spin (I assume this has to do with the cleaning) and your cat can do their business in private because it’s got solid sides.  So, there’s that too and that insulated bait bucket.  Always fun things to find on Costco.com!

@Frank – Here’s what they say about single, double, and triple switch plates: “Works on single plates, can be mounted on one toggle switch for double plates and can be mounted on the two end toggles with a 3 switch plate.” So, you could turn on two of the switches on the 3 switch plate (at least that is how it sounds to me).

That autochron thing looks good but unfortunately my exterior switches are part of a 3 switch plate. Any idea if this would work?
