Did you know that you can get personal and business checks printed through Costco? I hadn’t written about it yet, or even explored this service because I don’t really use checks and I just never think about it. However, one of my readers, Mike P., pointed out to me that not only can you get checks printed but you can get Costco checks. I really do mean, actual Costco designs on the front of your checks. He sent me the email about this like 3 or 4 months ago and I’ve been meaning to write about the whole process ever since. It’s taken me a while, but better late than never, I guess.
Costco has a whole site devoted to your check printing needs, whether they be personal or business. As well as traditional checks you can also get computer checks and forms. But wait, there’s more. You can get a variety of different items that you might need to keep your finances in order and everything ticking over – at home or the office – including, check covers, deposit slips, binders, address labels, and ink stamps.
On the personal check side of things they have 48 different designs to choose from, so there is definitely something for every taste. There is the simple blue or ivory checks that have no fancy design or anything, just a plain old check. And there are picturesque scenes from around America, from lovely fields in the midwest to the Golden Gate bridge, there are eight different views to enjoy. Then they also have the cartoon character checks, like Buzz Lightyear, Tinkerbell, and even Betty Boop. I’d have to say they seem to have a large amount of check designs that do look like they are geared towards people who maybe aren’t old enough to need a checking account, but then again I have a cousin who is in her 40s and loves Betty Boop, so you just never know. They also have a set of Coca-Cola checks, with designs from what is probably 50s ads they are kind of nostalgic and cute. But really, with 48 different design styles to choose from, there are plenty of options no matter what your preference. They even have special high tech security checks that have a hologram foil strip and a heat resistant circle in one corner to counteract any type of fraud or counterfeiting worries.
Then of course, you have my favorite set: Costco. Yes, you can get Costco on your checks from Costco. How totally right is that? The Costco set, like many of the others, has four different designs that will grace the front of your checks, each image is a picture of a different warehouse. And, they do tell you which warehouses: Seattle, Washington (the original store), Salinas, CA, Pembroke Pine, FL, and Langely, BC. If I still wrote checks in the US I would totally want some of these.
I never get checks printed, so I’m not sure if these are a good deal or not but they are nice designs. And really, where else can you buy a check with Costco warehouses on the front? The good news for Executive members is that you will save an additional 20% on your check order. Needless to say, the fancy high tech security checks are the most expensive: Gold Star/Business Members will pay $32.25 for 350 checks, and Executive Members will pay $25.80. For all of the other designs, the checks pricing has a bit of variation but basically Gold Star/Business Members will pay $17.12 – $17.89 for 350 checks, and Executive Members will pay $13.70 – $14.31. Those are for duplicates too, so that is a little nicer and adds some value. The only exception to that pricing, aside from the security checks, is the really plain designs which are $14.18 for Gold Star/Business Members and $11.34 for Executive Members for 500 single checks. If you want the plain checks with duplicates the prices go up to $14.41 for Gold Star/Business Members and $11.53 for Executive Members for 350 duplicate checks.
You can also get the desk checks, as well. These are the kind that are three checks to a page with a little register stub on the left hand side. The actual check size is 6″ x 2-3/4″ and then the stub size is 3-1/4″ x 2-3/4″. These are made to be put into a 3-ring binder and kept at home, thus the descriptive title of ‘desk checks’. For 600 single checks you will pay $31.71 for Gold Star/Business Members and $25.37 for Executive Members, and $46.23 for Gold Star/Business Members and $36.98 for Executive Members for 600 duplicates.
As I mentioned, they also have business checks, which are pretty much all in the desk check format. The pricing for these is a little different than for personal checks, and does allow you to add a logo to personalize the checks as well. Though, adding a customized logo will cost you $25.00 for the initial set up, however, it seems that when you reorder you won’t be required to pay this fee. For 600 single checks you will pay $28.22 for Gold Star/Business Members and $22.58 for Executive Members, and $52.23 for Gold Star/Business Members and $41.78 for Executive Members for 600 duplicates. You can get your business checks in a selection of colors and a couple of actual designs too.
When you have picked the design you like best, no matter if you are getting business checks or personal checks, you will simply need to select how many checks you want and then personalize them with your name and address, as well as all of the appropriate bank information. Luckily, they tell you exactly where all of that appropriate bank information can be found on your existing checks with a handy image.
Once you have placed your order, they say it will take about 5 – 7 business days to ship out your checks. There are three different shipping options for your checks, as well. You can either go with the free, non-trackable delivery method which can take 10 – 14 business days to arrive. You can choose the secure trackable method which really is the best way, I think, for something like checks because not only is the package trackable but it is shipped in tamper-resistant packaging to safeguard your checks. However, this does cost $7.75 but your checks will arrive safe and secure within 5 – 7 business days. The third option is for secure trackable express shipping, which will cost $13.45 and take 4 – 6 business days to be delivered. Business shipping costs a bit more but has the same delivery time frames and tracking ability. The big difference is in the expedited service allowing business checks to go out much quicker after printing than personal checks. But you’ll be paying either $18.15, $9.40 depending on how quickly you want your trackable delivery. Or you can always choose the very insecure free option that doesn’t offer tracking at all.
