Costco Canada Photo Contest Winners Announced

Costco Canada Photo Contest Winners Announced

At the beginning of June, Costco Canada’s photo contest started.  Running through July 28, gave plenty of time for lots of entries and lots of voting.  There were 39,000 entries this year! But now, the wait is over, the winners have been announced on the Costco Canada Facebook page.  This year the contest was great for member involvement because not only could you enter a photo or two or three, but you could also vote for your favourite photos.  I thought it was great that they were giving the members a chance to be involved by voting, even if they aren’t photographers, but then they made it even better by having a drawing of all the members that participated to win a $1,500.00 Costco Cash Card.

Just as a refresher, there were four different categories (each with their own sponsor) and each category has a first prize and a second prize as picked by judges, then there are four prizes awarded based on member voting.  The categories were:  Black and White, sponsored by WB; Cats and Dogs, sponsored by Pedigree; Travel, sponsored by Neutrogena; and Mobile, sponsored by Wireless, etc.  First prize in each category is awarded a $1,500.00 Costco Cash Card, while each second place photo receives a $1,000.00 Costco Cash Card.  In addition to those prizes that were selected by a judging panel, there is a winning photograph per category picked by Costco members’ votes.  Each of the four members’ selection winners receive a $500.00 Costco Cash Card.  All winners also get a photo book and 200, 4” x 6” online digital prints.

You can view all of the winning photos on the Costco Canada Facebook page through their photo viewer (just use the ‘Next’ text link at the top right of the images, or use the arrows to expand to full page size).   All of the winning photos were really great.  So, a big congratulations to all of the winners!

I’m grateful that folks yet still spend the time and energy to write down significant blogposts.

Votes are there so Costo can see who is more popular. It doesn’t play a vital role. Just because you have 1000 “friends on facebook” and I have 30, it doesn’t mean your shot of a cat or flower in backyard should win over a photo that took expertise to capture.
Overall, there are some really good photographs in the winner section. my favourite belongs to Dmitri M. After googling, seems like it belongs to Dmitri Markine http://www.dmitrimarkine.com A really amazing local photographer in Toronto
Trent B and Alex R also have great winning photos there. I didn’t like as much2 of the 3rd place winners, but I would assume those are the “voted” photographs…

      Agreed
Member votes are pointless…so people have time to vote everyday others dont

Thanks Kimberly, I never got the link before but I did this time….I guess they had their preferences for choices because it definitely didn’t go by votes. At least now I know who won, thank you ever so much. It was my first entry into this sort of contest, guess I won’t bother entering anymore…..

They notified the winners months ago, there are a number of legal steps to go through for costco to publish the winning photo’s in a publication so thats why there is a delay, they also made very clear in the rules that votes didn’t determine the final top 2 in each category.

Thanks for the input Kyle but I did read the rules. Still when I contacted them a month ago to see if they had the winners determined they just said it was on their web site but I could only access it through Facebook…..very unprofessional in my book either way. I am truly happy for the winners, congrats to them, I just find the entire experience very frustrating. Why have a vote at all, just pick the ones they want which is what they do anyway. Sorry if I tread on your toes, didn’t mean any disrespect…..

I entered the Costco Photo Contest 2013 this year for the first time. Right now I don’t think I will ever enter anything at Costco again. I’ve contacted them to get a list of the winners, they suggested I view their Facebook page which I did but still couldn’t find a list of the winners; I asked again in another email if they could send me a direct link but no such luck. I just happened to stumble upon this page so but somehow I feel I will not be able to get a list of the winners, lost cause I think. Why do they bother to have such a contest if they don’t make the results easily accessible? I’m beginning to believe there is something else going on. Sure I am upset that I didn’t get a look in for the winners but I am more upset that Costco made it so hard to find out who won. Don’t know why I am wasting my time but i guess I am just curious as to what the winning pictures actually look like? Can someone please send me a link to the winners, why is this so hard to find out?

I too have been looking for the results of the photo contest. Had a bad feeling right from the start, because I tried to enter three photos, but it would only accept one. I experienced a few other glitches; however, no one from Costco addressed my concerns when I posted them on their FaceBook page. The people at my local Costco were of no help either. A little professionalism would be nice!

I’ve added a link in the post to the list of winners on the Costco Canada site.

Thanks Kimberly but I couldn’t get the link….
