Ameriprise Insurance Makes Donations for Each Auto Quote this Month

May 14th, 2014 · 1 Comment

If you’ve been looking to change your auto insurance, this month might be the perfect time to get a quote.  For the month of May, Ameriprise Insurance will be making a $5.00 donation to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals for each auto quote for a Costco member.  So, you’re helping to support the Children’s Miracle Network, plus you could end up saving a bundle on your auto insurance too.  In the last six years, Ameriprise has donated more than $470,000 to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals through their partnership with Costco.

According to savings information provided by Costco members who became new auto insurance policyholders and reported their first year savings with Ameriprise Auto & Home Insurance between July and the end of the year for 2013, you could save up to $528.87 by going with auto insurance from Ameriprise.

As a Costco member you can receive discounts on your auto and/or home insurance through Ameriprise, however, you’ll also get a selection of additional benefits too:

  • Your choice of licensed repair facility for auto repairs
  • 24/7 claims service
  • Additional discounts available for safe driving, safety features, education, good grades, loyalty, multiple policies, and more
  • Multiple payment options
  • Windshield repair deductible waiver
  • Your policy, handled with care

If you’re a Costco Executive Member, you can receive even more benefits, including:

  • Lifetime renewability
  • Roadside assistance
  • Home glass repair reimbursement
  • Home lockout assistance

I really like that Ameriprise has a website where you can manage your policies online, and even report simple claims.  However, it’s also great that they have plenty of phone numbers for reporting claims and getting assistance because sometimes it is nice to talk to a real person.

The donation to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals is only made for auto insurance quotes from Ameriprise, but they do offer home and renters insurance for Costco members too.  So, after you get your auto quote, you might want a quote on one of those additional types of policy as well.

Do be sure to read the small print at the bottom of the page, because they have information about where and when discounts or benefits apply in there.  Unfortunately, the Costco home and auto insurance program isn’t available in AK, FL, LA, ME, ND, RI, WV, WY and Puerto Rico.

I love Costco. I HATE AMERIPRISE. They may donate to charity but they have offered 44% of the value of jewelry and other items supposedly covered by “replacement value” homeowner’s insurance. A discounted insurance premium is not worth the $26,000 I am expected to absorb on a claim after a burglary.

For comparison, after a mugging (25 years ago and my last insurance claim), my insurance company at that time paid the appraised value of jewelry stolen so I could actually replace the items with “like, kind and quality” as stated in the Ameriprise policy, but not honored by Ameriprise.

It is sad to see Costco associated with a company like Ameriprise. My extremely high opinion of Costco has been eroded by this.
