I wanted to make sure I posted about this recall because it isn’t listed yet on the Costco website and listeria certainly isn’t something anyone wants to mess with if they can avoid it. A few days ago La Terra Fina, a California company, voluntarily recalled its Organic Thick and Creamy Spinach Dip & Spread due to possible listeria contamination. This spinach dip recall is only for Bay Area Costco locations. As of now, no known illnesses have been traced to the product, so this recall is precautionary.
The spinach dip is the only product that La Terra Fina is recalling at this point. The dip is sold in 24 ounce containers with UPC Code: 640410513730. The following “best by” dates are the only ones that are part of this recall:
If you have one of these recalled containers of dip, don’t eat it! Either take it back to Costco for a refund or put it right in the trash.
Listeria can be bad news for anyone that has a compromised immune system, including the very young or very old, or those that are pregnant causing serious and sometimes fatal infections. Pregnant women should be especially cautious as listeria infections can be passed on to the baby even when the mother shows no symptoms. In utero infections have been known to cause premature delivery and can result in serious health complications for a newborn, miscarriage or stillbirth, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A healthy person will usually experience short-term symptoms that include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
