Mike,
Just an FYI… Cosco is a China company…and Costco is an American company… they are not related what so ever!

There is a strong rumor going around the Greenville/Winterville area, that Cosco has bought the now empty Home Depot property and is going to make it into a Cosco Store. Any Comments?

@Mike – I haven’t heard anything about a new Costco in Greenville at this point. I’ll do a search for it specifically this month though to see if I can find anything.

Deb sounds like your husband and I started with the company around the same time. Sounds like you have the same situation we have here in Florida, very stagnant and not much movement. Sounds like his only option is to tell them that he is willing to relocate to a new building or existing building if an Asst. Manager opens up. He really needs to tell the regional gms this or just start putting in for postings for new buildings. Once you become an Asst. you go pretty much where they tell you to go.

Deb, as far as being promoted to Asst. Man. from staff has a lot to do with seniority, also has your husband done all the staff positions in the building? How long has he been a staff manager, how long has he been with the company? It would also be good for him to talk with his Manager and regional gm to let them know he is ready to become an Asst. and if one should open up elsewhere he would be very interested and would like to be considered. Also I do believe that a warehouse manager has to have the regional’s ok to promote someone to Asst. So have your husband talk the the regional and the district manager.

Oh yes, he’s done all that! He’s a 23 year employee and been at staff for 7 years (I think) and has gone full rotation. They all know he wants/deserves it…just getting a little frustrated at this point I guess! There are so many other managers in the same position here, so it’s hard to get into an existing warehouse. He has never talked to anyone about going to a new warehouse (since they are all on the other side of the country). He didn’t know if there was different protocol for that, so that’s the reason for my question. He keeps saying he’s going to talk to someone, but is always busy and doesn’t, so I figured I’d ask here

Deb, I think the regional VP’s of the area have the say as to Assistant Managers, the manager of the building probably has some input, but the choices he is given are from corporate. I am not sure what you are asking as far as transfer or promotion is. Most people transfer on a lateral move, unless you have worked with the manager and he knows you then he or she could give you a promotion on your transfer.

Thanks for the info. I meant lateral . My husband has been waiting for a promotion from staff manager to assistant, but the company is saturated with employees waiting for the same thing! We are considering going out of state (we are in Washington) and then do a lateral move back. It seems that whenever a position opens up here it goes to someone who did just that. He has recommendations from several warehouse managers and corporate, but he hasn’t discussed with them the possibility of going elsewhere.

In a new warehouse, who hires the usually hires the asst. mgrs, the warehouse manager or corporate? Would there be a difference between a promotion or a transfer for who does the hiring?

Yea I figured it’d be a little to early for the mamagers trailer but I was just hoping he’d be there about this time. And yes they normally will have two trailers one for the construction crew and one for the management crew to conduct business/interviews. I’ll be going through Knoxville in a couple of weeks was hoping to swing by and talk to Todd. And it’ll be right at that 12 week before opening I’ll be passing through. Thanks for y’all in Knoxville for being everyone else’s eyes!

Rick, as far as looks no it looks like any other trailer, however I do believe the will have some sort of sign on it showing that it is the Costco trailer. And sometimes if there is a strip mall within a block they would rent out an office there too for the manager. I have only been around one opening from the beginning and that was when we relocated the building I am presently in. I am sure one of the others hear might have a little bit more knowledge on it. P.S. If any of the Farragut gang hears anything on their transfer let me know. Trying to figure out what time frame they will be letting people know. I was told 10 days after the close of the posting but Todd has alot of time actually to do this before he needs anybody there. He has at least 6 weeks to put the crew together i would think.

j, Mary and Tim were by the site this weekend and they didn’t think the costco trailer was onsite yet. I would say in the next month they will be putting it in.

Todd, Is there a diffiernce in a “Costco trailer” an the trailer set up on site about a month ago? If no one has noticed, a 60 ft cream colored tralier has been on site now for well over a month. It sits along side the Lovell road side of the site. I know it is an office maybe for construction. If threr is to be a Costco trailer I will keep an eye out.

Chicov1, I cant tell you how they go about selecting employees at new buildings, usually seniority should play some factor in it but not always. I know we had quite a few in my building that put in for it and they only took 3 that i know of so far. Try to friend me on FB.

Andie, apply online through costco.com. It should give you the option i believe of picking the warehouse you want to apply to. Is Wheaton the closest Costco to your residence?

Is there a way to get a job a Costco without being a “transfer”.

Costco has lots of information available through the Costco.com website for future/potential employees. You can find the details about benefits and stuff here: http://shop.costco.com/About/Costco-Employment.aspx
You can also apply to a specific warehouse online. To do so, just go here: https://wfa.kronostm.com/index.jsp?locale=en_US&APPLICATIONNAME=CostcoNonReqExt As part of the online application process you pick the state and city of the warehouse that you would like to apply to, or you can enter your zip code for the locations nearest you. You can also apply for specific positions.
Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info Matthew, yes if they have a lot of transfers they may interview for the management positions, but I know the people that put in for the Sarasota warehouse in our building all got letters in the mail, even the optical manager. I guess it all depends on how many transfers they get at certain positions. I put in for Management for Knoxville but am not expecting to go as one. Will probably go as forklift driver.

Todd, I think they give people a call to the see about possible position but I had interview with management team when I came home to portland a few times and didnt hear about my transfer till one of my boss at the pocatello, id told me i am going to be working at the east vancouver. I didnt get any letter or phone call about the job position. I think there are chances that they will interview if there a lot of people who put in for a transfer. I heard that there was about 800 transfer request to the East vanocuver when it was being build. hope this help you out alittle in some information.
