Costco Coupon Book, UK – September 20 – October 10, 2010

September 28th, 2010 · 4 Comments

I just picked these up this weekend on my trip to Costco, but I’ve already used a couple of them.  As you’ll be able to tell from looking at the PDF, the format for this recent coupon book has completely changed: there are coupons on both sides of the pages and thus, no bar codes on the back.  They do say, in the coupon book, that you still need to present the coupons to the cashier, but I didn’t do that this week and still got the discounts.  I like this new style since it saves paper and gets rid of the useless bar code that they didn’t really use anyway because there was just one bar code per coupon book anyway.  I wonder if the US will start using a similar format for their coupon books, as well.

I’ve uploaded a PDF of this month’s Costco UK Coupon Book.  If you haven’t had a chance to pick up your copy yet, you can browse through and plan your next shopping trip.  And you still have almost two weeks to take advantage of all the deals.

Throughout this month’s coupon book there are more than £700.00 in savings on a lot of great items: clothing, cleaning supplies, food, drinks, kitchen items, eyewear, a mattress, televisions, cameras and household electronics, mirrors, and even a burglar alarm system.  It looks like it would be a good month to stock up on cleaning supplies for sure; which is exactly what I did.  I took advantage of the Finish coupon for 33% off two boxes of 60 all-in-one tablets, as well 25% off 5 liters of Comfort fabric softener.  Both of those should keep me having clean dishes and soft clothing for a number of months.

The other coupon that I think makes for a really great deal is the one for £8.00 off gallery style mirrors.  There are two sizes of mirrors either 48×120 cm or 60×90 cm, with either size just £37.58 (including VAT) after the coupon.  That is an amazing deal!  These are very nice sized mirrors with a beveled mirror frame and similar things at John Lewis are over £150.00.  Of course, as you can tell, even without the coupon they are a tremendous deal.  Of course, if you’re in the market for a nice mirror, this is the perfect time to get one.

The are a couple of  differences I notice between the UK coupon books and those in the US.  First, they often put the price of the item on the coupon, and show how much it will be after the coupon is applied, both with and without the VAT included.  Second, there are a lot of coupons for liquor and wine; ten in this coupon book.  I’m sure this has to do with liquor laws and such in the US, but still, it always seems strange to me to see a coupon for Southern Comfort or Bombay Sapphire gin.  I’m not sure if there are so many this time so that people can start buying for Christmas or what, but if you’re having a party, you definitely have lots of options for adult beverages this month.

Remember the Brits will be making their Christmas cakes and puds in Sept/Oct so will need their Brandy!! Buying and putting liquor to one side for Christmas is a trait too. Surprisingly, I heard on the BBC news recently that consumption of liquor was down 6% due to the downfall in the economy. Hopefully it will be a happy jolly Christmas in my homeland this year and for Costcos.

I think if you just happened through any of the small grocery stores in my area, you would be fairly certain that people in London live on liquor and chocolate. They’re always the biggest displays in all of the stores. I love a country that can appreciate their sweets so much.
