Poinsettias from Costco for Instant Christmas Cheer

December 13th, 2012 · 4 Comments

My mom is visiting for Christmas and was bragging about her huge poinsettias that she had gotten at Costco recently.  That, of course, reminded me, to remind all of you, about how great the Costco poinsettias are and what a wonderful bargain too.  So, I’m going to repost a review I did of them back in 2008, but my mom assures me that they are still this huge and that the price is remarkably still the same $15.99, as well.

It just says ‘Christmas’, doesn’t it?

10″ Poinsettias – Have you seen these gorgeous poinsettias that they have at Costco?  They are so big and full (not to mention healthy, which you don’t get all the time when buying plants of any kind at most places) that they make a great decoration for the holiday season – inside or out.  They are truly so big that they’re almost bush-like instead of just looking like a little plant.  I’m sure you think that I’m exaggerating but seriously they’re not small; ours are around 29 inches tall and around 30 inches wide.   Yes, I have broken out the tape measure.  I’ve bought bushes to plant in my yard that were definitely smaller than that.  Plus, if you take care of your holiday poinsettia by giving it enough water and sun, it is actually capable of living beyond January.  It seems like people get them just for Christmas but they’re like any other house plant that you might get (and in some climates you could plant them outside).  My mom’s got one from last year still!  Aside from the fact that they are very pretty with the beautiful red and green foliage and the huge size, these poinsettias are like instant festive decorating.  There are very few holiday decoration items that you can bring home sit down, right as is from the store, and have them make your whole house look cheery and ready for the holidays.  Plus, they are great for brightening up corners or someplace that needs just that little pop of red.  I have two of them sitting in my kitchen because it’s pretty much all I need to make the kitchen look  full of Christmasy holiday cheer.  I love them and I love that Costco always carries such nice, big plants too!  If you are having a party or people over for a party and you are looking for a quick way to make your house look festive and cheerful, get a couple of these and you’ll have all of your decorating done in a couple of minutes.  By the way, if you’re wondering, the 10″ refers to the size of the pot that they are in, certainly not the size because I didn’t pick some up that were exceptionally large or anything.   10″ poinsettia for $15.99.

My Costco Poinsettia died immediately after we got it home?

@Jeff – If it died that quickly, I would take it back if I were you.

I purchase Poinsettia Christmas from Costco every year and have been pleased with it. This year is quite a different story; first of all, the base pot look half of the size of last year and the plant is much smaller. The very next day after I bought it, the flower and leaves start wilting. Some of my friends purchase the plant have the same problem. I am very disappointed about the product this year, obviously they try to cut corners making more profit. I have many friends claim they are getting the plant from somewhere else.
