Costco Australia is CLOSED for Australia Day (Saturday, January 26, 2013)

January 23rd, 2013 · 2 Comments

It’s Australia Day this Saturday and from what I gather that means lots of parties and get togethers.  It seems like this is celebrated similarly to 4th of July in the US, where people get together and celebrate the day with backyard parties and such.  So, if you are planning on going to Costco to get some of your festive fare, then you’ll need to make sure you do it before Saturday because all Costco Australia locations are CLOSED this Saturday.  So, that only gives you a couple of days to get to Costco for all the things you need to make your party a success.  If Saturday is your normal Costco shopping day, don’t worry, all locations will resume their normal hours on Sunday.  Costco Australia will also be open on Monday for the Australia Day public holiday, and they’ll even open early, of course they’ll also be closing early too.  All three locations will be open on Monday from 9 am to 6 pm.

Happy Australia Day!

Wow, I hadn’t noticed this before. This is a really unusual move from Costco Australia. Australia day patriotism is nothing like 4th of July in the USA and most people see it as just a day off work and not a chance for a party. Being a Saturday this year, it’s really just another long weekend. Most other retailers will be rubbing their hands together with the likely increased, log weekend traffic.

I had noticed that all of the other retailers treat it as a reason for a big sale, but that happens in the US too. Maybe Costco figured it would be nice to let their employees have the day to celebrate instead of work. There’s certainly a lot of stuff going on tomorrow, and to me, it seems a lot like the types of things people do to celebrate 4th of July in the US.
