This Week at Costco – December 14, 2014

December 20th, 2014 · 1 Comment

With Christmas less than a week away, I hope everyone has all of their shopping, wrapping and preparing under control.  If you’ve put it off just a bit too late, there’s still time to order from Costco online if you are in need of last minute party supplies or gifts.  If you’re in the US, you can order from Costco.com until 11:59 PST on December 22 and choose the “express” shipping option.  If you’re in the UK, you’ve got until noon on December 23 for delivery before Christmas (for most items), they don’t specify but I’m sure you’ll also have to select an expedited shipping method.  Costco Canada doesn’t specify a deadline on their website, unfortunately, so don’t put it off!

Kirkland Signature European Cookies with Belgian Chocolate

Kirkland Signature European Cookies with Belgian Chocolate

Kirkland Signature European Cookies with Belgian Chocolate -Oh, these are super delicious!  We buy a tin of these every year, this year we were a little late getting them and had to get them from Costco.co.uk instead of the store.  I hadn’t planned on getting them but I was looking for something else and they were there looking so temptingly delicious and I am so very, very weak that I added them to my cart.  The tin is nicely un-themed this year, without some variety of holiday or winter scene.  I like that because I like to keep the tins to store craft supplies and other things, so it is nice when they aren’t so obviously Christmas themed.  But of course, the most important thing is the chocolaty cookie goodness inside the tin.  All of the cookies have some type of Belgian chocolate on them, either milk, dark or white chocolate, or a combination of those types. The chocolate is the perfect accompaniment to the rich buttery cookies or the yummy wafers.  There are 14 different varieties on each of the two layers of cookies.  Luckily, there’s a handy legend on the inside of the tin so that you can decide which scrumptious cookie to try first.  The other really nice thing is that each of the layers is individually wrapped.  I don’t have a favourite because they are all really delicious; though I do tend to leave the dark chocolate ones for Dave because I’m nice like that (or I just really can’t stand dark chocolate).  These would make a great gift for someone that loves chocolate or they would be perfect for a party because it is a pretty large amount of cookies (just over 3 pounds) and they look really pretty too.  I bought mine online at Costco.co.uk so they are a bit higher than if I had purchased them in the store, I’m guessing at least £2.00.  Also, I know they have these in the US and probably all of their other locations around the globe too.  If you haven’t tried them before, I would suggest it because they are great. 1.4 kilogram for £12.99.  Item #131166

Kirkland Signature Macadamia Clusters with Salted Caramel

Kirkland Signature Macadamia Clusters with Salted Caramel

Kirkland Signature Macadamia Clusters with Salted Caramel and Milk Chocolate – These are so so good!  But so so dangerous to have in your kitchen.  The combination of macadamia nuts, salted caramel and milk chocolate is outstanding.  I wanted to just keep nibbling on these but we were responsible and limited ourselves to just a couple at a time.  These would be great for a party, or a gift.  If you’re giving them as a gift, you might want to put them in another container though.  While I love the square, easy to stack Kirkland Signature nut and sweet containers in my pantry, they’re not exactly up for a fancy gift giving occasion.  My mom used to love peanut clusters, and we would have those around this time of year, but I think the macadamia clusters are even better because the nuts are softer so the whole cluster has a better texture.  Plus, macadamia nuts are tastier than peanuts (at least to me).  And of course, these have the added decadence of the salted caramel in the mix.  The salty caramel is the perfect partner to the sweet milk chocolate coating.  It’s just that perfect blend of salty and sweet.  Dave and I could have happily munched our way through this whole container while watching some movies though.  So, beware!  But that deliciousness makes them the perfect special treat.  I will definitely be getting these again but since these came from the US, I’m a bit worried that I won’t be able to find them at our Costco UK location.  Otherwise, I’ll have to stock up on them during our next trip to the US.  Think these count as a liquid or gel on the plane?  2 pounds for $13.79.  Item #: 297671.

Kirkland Signature Handmade Gift Tags

Kirkland Signature Handmade Gift Tags

Kirkland Signature Handmade Holiday Gift Tags and Printed Gift Tissue –  I’m going to combine my review of these two items because they are the perfect combination to take your presents from those with an average wrapping job, to ones with a totally luxurious look.  The Handmade Holiday Gift Tags are wonderful!  Some of them are adorable and some of them are very pretty, but they are all great.  There’s so much detail on the tags, and all of those little special touches really do make the tags look handmade.  There are tags for adults and kids too, so everyone can get a special gift tag on their gift.  There are 60 gift tags in this set from Costco and that means that you should definitely have enough for adorning all of your gifts.  There are 19 different designs, and there are at least two of all designs, with just one exception.  There is just a single one of the little red and green tag that looks like a present box, it is a pocket for a gift card  and one of the ones that I think is absolutely adorable.   But they are all so cute and pretty that it is hard to pick a favourite.  If you don’t have 60 gifts you are giving out this year, you can obviously keep them for next year, but I’ve also thought they’d make great ornaments on a little tree or wreath.  Or they would be great for place cards at a holiday dinner party.  I just want to point out too that the price on these is beyond excellent.  You get 60 gift tags for $8.69, which means that you are paying just $0.14 per tag!  That’s not a deal you’re likely to be able to match anywhere else for such nice looking gift tags.

Kirkland Signature Printed Tissue Paper

Kirkland Signature Printed Tissue Paper

And of course if you have such pretty gift tags, you have to have something nice to put them on.  If you have shopped at Costco for very long you know that they have outstanding deals on very high quality gift wrap and beautiful ribbon too.  I’ve never found the wire edged ribbon for a better price, well, not for something I actually wanted in any case.  But Costco also has a this great variety pack of gorgeous printed tissue paper too (my picture does absolutely no justice to this paper).  There are 120 sheets in the package with 10 different designs, so 12 sheets of each design.  No more boring white tissue paper!  There’s even a design that is printed on something more like mylar than regular tissue paper and you could definitely use it to wrap a gift without worry of it tearing.  The other designs are all on regular tissue paper, but seem to have a good thickness that means if you’re a bit careful you could be able to use it as wrapping as well, without it tearing to shreds.   I think all of the designs are great and will certainly perk up your gifts and just give them that little bit of each fanciness.  Since the sheets are petty good sized at 20 inches by 24 inches, you should have enough for all of your gifts and gift bags this holiday.  And since each of these pretty sheets is just $0.06 per sheet, you don’t have to feel like you need to hoard it either and can use it for all of your gifts.  Most of the tissue paper designs could be used for year long gift giving too because they aren’t specifically Christmas themed.  I think seven of the ten designs are usable throughout the year without anyone knowing that you bought it at Christmastime.  I’m glad that I got this to fill out my gift wrapping selection for the year!  60 gift tags for $8.69.  Item #: 915627.  120 sheets printed tissue paper for $6.99.  Item #: 915852.

Happy holidays, everyone!

Bought this tin for $13.99 Canadian at the Ottawa Costco store. The cookies are delicious.
