Costco US Photo Center Website Back Online

August 31st, 2015 · 4 Comments

After being down for more than a month is finally back up and running.    As I mentioned in previous posts, Costco’s third party vendor, PNI Digital Media, had a security breach at the end of July.  As a result, Costco and several other retailers, took down their photo websites while the breach was investigated and measures were put in place to assure that everyone’s account information was safe.  So, after all that time, Costco’s online photo center is back.

When you first log in to your account you will be sent an email prompting you to reset your password for the site, and then you can get back to most of your normal Photo Center activities.  The good news is that if you had started a project before the site was taken down, then you will be able to continue your work on it now.  The bad news is that there are a few things that are still not fully functional: home delivery, the mobile app, and creation of new photo books.

I’ve copied below the message that Costco has posted on the Photo Center website when you visit now and it should cover all of the questions you might have, or you can check out their “Help” page.  As a little effort to apologize for the inconvenience, Costco has some special pricing on photo greeting cards and 4″x6″ prints that will run through October 4, 2015.

Dear Members,

Let us begin by apologizing for all of the inconvenience, frustration and concern created by taking the Costco Photo Center offline. We recognize the value our members place on their memories, and we are very sorry for the lengthy downtime experienced on our site.

That said, we are grateful for your loyal patronage, and welcome you back to the Costco Photo Center. We appreciate your trust in our offering, and look forward to assisting our members in creating lasting memories that only a picture or photo gift can capture!

With the exception of home delivery, the mobile app and members wanting to build new photo books, all products previously available are fully functional. Members who had started a project prior to the shutdown will be able to complete their project (available through the “my projects” header-tab). We expect the mobile app and the ability to build new photos books to be available shortly. Home delivery should be available by 9/29/15 or earlier.

Preliminary findings show a security compromise occurred at the company that hosts the Costco Photo Center, which also affected many other online photo sites. The site has been rebuilt with additional security measures applied at several levels. For more information about the security incident that caused our site to be down, and the ongoing investigation, please click here.

For your security and protection, when you log in for the first time, you will be sent an email that will require you to reset your password.

Below, please find automatic re-introduction price reductions for the products listed. The price reduction will be applied when you complete your order on the photo center site:

Product Normal Price Welcome Back Offer Date
Stationery Greeting Cards $17.25 for 25 $10 off Valid through 10/4/15
Photo Greeting Cards $14.99 for 50 $10 off Valid through 10/4/15

Kind regards,

The Costco Photo Center
